What is Forest Bathing?

This Japanese-originating practice is called shinrin-yoku, meaning "absorbing the forest atmosphere."   This practice is an inspiration to reconnect with nature, cleansing our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual selves.  This is NOT a hike, but a short exploration (~ 1/2 mile) with invitations to immerse yourself in the 2-hour experience.

All the senses are engaged, bathing in the forest (not bathing in water.).  Every experience is unique, by person and by session.

What to Wear and Bring:

If the ground is wet due to recent rain, boots are recommended.  Otherwise comfortable shoes that support you in walking, standing and sitting for short periods of time.  Sometimes people will go barefoot but don't rely on it if you don't know the conditions of the surface area (ex: pine needles.)
  • Comfortable clothes (weather appropriate)
  • Walking shoes/boots
  • Bug spray, sunscreen and sunglasses (as desired)
  • Small blanket or chair for sitting
  • Water bottle
  • Journal (optional - for capturing your experience following the session)
  • Open mind

A tea ceremony with light snacks will conclude the experience.  If you have food sensitivities/allergies, please notify the organizer:

Rain Plan:

In the event that the weather is not adequate for the forest bathing experience, we'll meet and have a Chair Yoga experience together at Divine Passage Funeral Home at 175 N Douglas St., Ripon, WI 54971.
