Please join us for this virtual presentation by Dr. Sara Steffes Hansen, chair of UW Oshkosh Journalism Department and associate professor, as she discusses media literacy. Virtual networking with introductions by attendees will begin at 11:45 am, and the program will start at noon.

According to a  September 2020 study from the Pew Research Center, 26% of U.S. adults get their news from YouTube. How do we know if our media sources are providing accurate information? Join us for a discussion on how to employ critical media literacy skills to detect and challenge misinformation and disinformation.  

About the speaker
Sara Steffes Hansen is chair and associate professor in strategic communication for the Department of Journalism. She earned her Ph.D. in mass communication at UW Madison. She holds a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Colorado-Denver and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from UW Eau Claire.  Hansen’s research has explored brand and strategic communication in interactive media related to videogames, consumer behavior, political image-making and activism.
